October 14

Today was the Girls Section V individual tennis playoffs for Division AA schools.  The top two singles players and top two doubles team get to compete.  The matches were scheduled to start at noon so the girls had to leave school early to get to the Mendon Racquet & Pool Club where the games were being held.  I left work early in Buffalo to drive to Mendon to see the games. It took me about 1 1/2 hours.

Kendra and her partner Arin were up in the first set of games.  The singles games were held inside one bubble and the doubles inside the other. Unfortunately the courts aren’t set up well for spectators.  Kendra’s match was on the third court away from us, making it very difficult to see since we had to see “through” two other games.  I was just thankful they weren’t on the fourth court.

The girls put up a good fight but ended up losing 10-5 (for these playoff games the team who won 10 games first won).  When their match was over we stuck around to watch Jodie and Rachel’s match which was on the first court.   Unfortunately they also lost.

We went over to the other bubble to catch the ongoing singles matches.  There were some really intense competition in play.  We saw our second singles player finish up a really close match which she unfortunately lost.   Our first singles player won her match and advanced in the competition.

It was a good experience for the girls.  I was glad I was able to see the playoffs since Kendra will be giving up tennis and it was probably the last time I’ll see her play.
